A Personal Message from our Founder, Ken Urie, MA, LMHC
As spring approaches, I feel energized about all that is ahead. As we move into 2021, my renewed inspiration is also informed by each of us emerging from a cascade of unprecedented events.
We could hardly catch our breath before the news-cycle ran the next harrowing headline. Incessant restrictions violated our daily freedoms. Our mounting personal losses and dashed hopes were simply wearing us out.
I continue to be reminded that, even in the midst of all of it -- one intentional step we can take today is to listen. Listen closely, beyond all the noise and all the chatter. When we do, we hear powerful ideas emerging.
We hear the truth that we are one human family.
We hear that we must treat each other accordingly.
We hear that anything otherwise has been tolerated far too long.
We hear the truth that no matter the "social" distance required between us, we are still deeply connected. We have the opportunity every day to truly SEE each other.
Mill Creek Family Services exists in order for all people to know their own inner worth and essential contribution to the whole of life. We are here to help people create healthy, peaceful, non-violent relationships. That is what is going to make a positive difference in our world.
We are here for YOU -- to be well, to live well, and to love well.
There is a better way ahead. The awaking of spring reminds us of that. We also know the journey will not always be easy. At MCFS, we are here to walk beside you on your path.
The words of message of Saint Francis of Assisi have long provided inspiration to me. Perhaps they can be an encouragement for you as well.
I am an instrument of peace.
Where there is anger, I bring love; Where there is hurt, forgiveness; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; Where there is sadness, joy.
Today, I will console.
Today, I will understand.
Today. I will love.
When I give, I receive. When I forgive, I am forgiven. When I let go, I let in the eternity of Life.
